Highway Patrol to Target Impaired Drivers this Holiday Season

The Highway Patrol is reminding people to drive with caution this holiday season.

Troopers will be out in full force to remove dangerous and impaired drivers in hopes of reducing the number of accidents. Sergeant Charles Merryman on the numbers.

"In this area specifically we had zero fatalities, which was great. Unfortunately, state wide there were 24 people that were killed on the roadways. Four of them accidents involved impaired drivers."

Sergeant Merryman says they have a zero tolerance policy for anyone driving under the influence and are going to take strict enforcement measures.

"It really depends on the person. It depends on their size, it depends on if they’re used to consuming alcohol, what they’ve eaten that day. But, normally it’s a little less than you would think. So, that’s why it’s important to plan ahead maybe for a designated driver, if you know that you’re going to partake in drinking alcohol."

Highway Patrol would like to remind drivers to report any suspicious driving to local law enforcement agencies.
