Hit and Run Family Grieves/Police Find SUV
A Zanesville construction worker is dead after an early morning hit and run accident on I-70 in Columbus.
25 year old Eric Kirkbride was part of a road repaving crew for Shelly and Sands when he was struck by an SUV around 1:30 Wednesday morning.
Now, the devastated family wants answers.
"Along with the grief, we’re just really upset, because we want this person caught, because he was a fun loving young man that had a family, and he didn’t deserve this. His family didn’t deserve this and trying to explain this to his kids is really hard," Angie Smith said.
The victim’s sister Angie Smith said that she and her Aunt Gayle had to tell his wife and two young children about the tragic accident.
"We had to get her out of bed to tell her the news of the accident," Gayle Kirkbride said.
"We just want people to remember Eric as the fun loving tough guy that he was," Smith said.
His Aunt Gayle said his dad and uncle were working with Kirkbride when the fatal accident happened.
"They got to go be with him before they took him away," Gayle Kirkbride said.
"I feel really bad for his dad and his uncle I have never seen those two men so lost," Gayle Kirkbride said.
Kirkbride loved his family.
"No matter when i talked to him and no matter what was going on he would always say I love you," Gayle Kirkbride said.
The family just wants to find the person who did this.
"We’ve lost someone and it was uncalled for he was doing his job. We loved him we and we’re going to miss him," Gayle Kirkbride said.
Columbus Police say they have now located the SUV they believe was involved in the fatal accident. It is a Chevy Tahoe. Police did not release any other information on the case.
