How to Have a Healthy Holiday
Your holiday plans may involve spending time with family and with everyone coming in close contact, there’s sure to be plenty of germs being passed along with those presents.
To avoid becoming a victim of the flu during your holiday gatherings Rambo Memorial Health urges everyone to get their flu shot. Not only will you be protecting yourself, you’ll be protecting those that haven’t had the shot.
“That’s one of the biggest reasons to get it. You don’t want to be sick. You certainly don’t want your family to be sick and if you are protecting you and your family you’re also protecting your community,” explained Executive Director of Rambo Memorial Health Center Gloria Brown.
Brown said the vaccine takes around two weeks to take effect. The flu can also lead to other illnesses.
“It can also lead to pneumonia and cause problems with the children sometime they can even have seizures from the flu,” said Brown.
The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone ages six months and up.
Sometimes people getting the shot can experience soreness or redness at the site of the shot or feel fatigued, but those problems go away in around 1-2 days.
Flu shots are available at Rambo from 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday. The cost is $5 for Muskingum County Residents and $20 for those out of county.
