Howard Underwood

Howard M. Underwood, 74, of Byesville, passed away Friday (September 18, 2026) at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

He was born March 14, 1952 in Akron, son of the late Josiah Underwood and Myrtle (Eggers) Underwood.

Howard worked at Greenwood Cemetery in Byesville for several years. Later, Howard retired from Ohio Department of Natural Resources, where he had worked at Wolf Run State Park for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacy Haught; two brothers: Harvey and Joseph Underwood; and three sisters: Shirley Cutlip, Mary Ellen Rucker, and Patricia Stanley.

Howard is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Cristy (Richards) Underwood; and his son, Josh Underwood of Byesville.

No calling hours will be observed. No funeral services will be held at this time. Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, is handling arrangements.
