Hull Pottery Association Holds Pottery Show at Crooksville High

Pottery Sale

CROOKSVILLE, Ohio- The Hull Pottery Association held its 27th annual Hull Pottery show and sale at Crooksville High School on Saturday.

The event had over 20 dealers with around 50 tables filled with various shapes and colors of Hull pottery. Zanesville, Crooksville, and Roseville have a rich history when it comes to pottery and the materials needed for the craft.

“They call Zanesville, Crooksville, and Roseville the pottery capital of the world, which it was. Because hull was made here, mccoy was made here, weller was made in Zanesville, rookwood is from Cincinnati. There are hundreds of potteries over the years that were here, some a little, some a lot. Hull was one of the lucky ones that did survive for a long time, for a long period of time. This is clay country. This is pottery country,” said Hull Pottery Association Treasurer Keith Knowles.

The turnout was positive and there were significant proceeds made from the pottery sales and donations. The Association has several priorities that they will allocate the funds towards.

“What it does is it supports the Hull Pottery Association which we like to promote the collection of hull pottery. We like to promote giving the people the information on pottery, and we also in years past, we used to sponsor a scholarship at the Crooksville High School which due to funding we had to stop. We had to suspend it. But hopefully in the near future, we will be back with a $500 a year scholarship to a Crooksville graduate,” added Knowles.
