Hundreds gather for Light The Night Walk

Hundreds of balloons lit up the campus of Ohio University-Zanesville and Zane State Thursday evening for the 6th annual Light The Night Walk.

The Walk is meant to bring those who have been diagnosed or know someone who has been diagnosed with blood cancer together. Thursday night’s event was also a celebration of survivorship.

"Your family and friends can understand how you feel but it takes someone else that has cancer to really know those feelings and it’s like our own little brotherhood. You hate to have to say that but you have a bond with those people," said cancer survivor Amy Adams.

Adams was diagnosed in July of 2009 with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and while she says she isn’t entirely cancer free, her spirit is what keeps her going.

"All through my chemo, I had a blast with it, I had 25 wigs, no one ever knew what I was going to look like when I came out in the morning, I had to laugh, you have to have some fun and my friends and family have helped me do that and this walk means a lot. It’s fun, friends, family and it’s people that want to cure this disease," said Adams.

During The Walk’s first 5 years, more than 400,000 dollars was raised for blood cancer research. Thursday evening’s walk is expected to raise a little more than 80,000 dollars.
