In Celebration of Women’s History Month we Recognize One Local Woman

In celebration of women’s history month we are getting a ‘Community Close Up’ with some inspiring women in the Zanesville area. Sunday we sat down with Dr. Anita Jackson.

"Community members may know Dr. Anita Jackson as a Teacher, Professor or a Counselor. Above those callings Dr. Jackson is also a Wife, Mother, Artist, Author and a Mentor, just to name a few. Dr. Jackson allowed us into her life for a moment to learn a little more about her leadership in the community," said Brittany Clark.

"I guess whether it’s in a professional roll or doing something in the community I really strive to encourage young people to go as far as they can," said Dr. Jackson.

Born and raised in Cleveland, OH, Dr. Jackson moved to Zanesville because she fell in love with her husband. Upon her move Dr. Jackson worked in the school district and was very active in her church.

Dr. Jackson is the Praise Dance instructor at her church and among teaching dance, she has also acts as a mentor.

"She’s willing to put her time into teaching us anything," said Jakayla Greiner.

"Teaching me how to be a big part of my community and always help and how to be a strong black woman and always be there for people," said Doris Alexander.

I actually really appreciate everything that she has taught me," said Jaylynn Greiner.

Dr. Jackson stems from a bloodline of educated people, in fact Dr. Jackson is the niece to Judge Perry Jackson the first black Judge in Ohio. Dr. Jackson said she and her sister wrote a book to keep his name alive.

"I knew him personally as a child growing up. It seemed like many people in the family were very much inspired by him and the things that he did and noting many of the obstacles that he faced," said Dr. Jackson.

Dr. Jackson continues to inspire and motivate the Zanesville community as her uncle Judge Perry Jackson did.
