Influx Of Car Break-Ins Reported In North Zanesville

The Zanesville Police Department is asking you to stay alert during a recent influx of car break-ins.

Captain Tony Coury says the crime has been occurring around apartment complexes on the north end of town. Coury says it’s not really a generalized area, but more so hit and miss. Coury says they don’t currently have a suspect.

“We don’t have any suspects. We’re just looking for people, you know, to call in. And pay attention to your neighbors, pay attention to yourself.”

Coury says there are things you can do to help prevent being a victim of this type of crime, and he shared some of those tips with us.

“Well you need to lock your car. If you have valuables, take them in the house with you. If you cant get them in a house and you have to keep them in your car, put them in the trunk. Cover them up with a blanket, do anything, but don’t leave them out in plain sight.”

If you happen to witness a car break in, you should call 9-1-1 and report it. The Zanesville Police Department is also looking for tips regarding the crime. You can leave one by calling the number: (740)455-0700
