International Education Week at OUZ
Ohio University Zanesville kicked off its fifth annual International Education Week celebration Monday.
International Education Week is time for schools nationwide to recognize cultural diversity and promote studying abroad. In honor of this national phenomenon, OUZ is inviting the community to participate in a variety of campus activities and presentations focusing primarily on multiculturalism. Campus Dean, Jenifer Cushman, said this week is especially important to OUZ, as one-third of its professors were born outside of the United States.
“Global competency is a 21st Century skill that’s very important for our students to be able to succeed in their lives, we all know that companies are multi-national, and that we will interact with people who are different from ourselves, so we need to communicate what that means to our individual lives, our place in the world,” Cushman said.
Cushman said 17 different countries from across the globe will be represented throughout the week. In recognition of this year’s theme, “health and wellness,” OUZ is partnering with Genesis HealthCare System for a “Doctors Without Borders” presentation on Thursday.
“We will conclude with a presentation by Dr. Ijaz, he’s from Genesis, he’ll do a presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday and the presentation name is a ‘A Journey to the U.S,'” said assistant professor of chemistry, Shadi Abu-Bakar.
Most of the activities and events are free and open to the public. For a complete list of activities, visit ohio.edu/zanesville.
