Intro to Kayaking
BLUE ROCK, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources offers many hands-on educational programs that can benefit everyone interested.
Blue Rock State Park Manager Dave Finley explains the importance of enlightening the public to many of the natural aspects that can be found in the state park.
“Naturalists are very important to ODNR. They provide a host of educational interpretive topics, with the focus on sustainability and the protection of Ohio’s natural resources. Plant and wildlife identification and education, geographical formations, paddling, paddling safety, sustainable crafting and community outreach are just a short list of the number of things that naturalists do for ODNR,” Finley said.
Blue Rock State Park will be hosting a couple of events, led by ODNR Naturalist Summer Wohlfrom that are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14th and will be held on the lake rain or shine.
“The first is Intro to Kayaking. This is for people who have not been kayaking at all,” Finley said. “The second event that will be occurring on 9/14 will be the Kayak Bird Watching. That will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Paddlers must have kayaking experience. But kayaks, life jackets and binoculars will be provided.”
Registration is requested and participants will meet at the Park Store located at 7924 Cutler Lake Road, Blue Rock, OH 43720. You can register by visiting or calling the park store, at (740) 674-4794.
