Investigation Underway After Threat Made Against a Local School

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Local authorities are investigating a threat made Thursday morning at a Maysville school.

Parents of students in the district received a pre-recorded phone call stating school administrators have been made aware of a non-immediate, non-specific threat. With aftermath of the mass shooting in San Bernadino California on December 2nd still fresh in our minds, Muskingum County is being pro-active when it comes to investigating and responding to such threats.

“We are trying to keep our citizens informed as well as possible, let them know we are working on this. It is an ongoing investigation. Sheriff, Matt Lutz said, “For those following the media we don’t release a lot of information on pending investigations. Until charges are filed or until those investigations are closed. We are taking this very seriously like bomb threats or any other threats at our schools.”

School administrators and law enforcement strongly feel that the safety of students and staff is not at risk.

“One thing that the Maysville local school district tries to do is inform our parents and our community. Superintendent, Monte Bainter said,  “Even though this is non-specific non-immediate type threat, we felt like we needed to let people know we did find something.  And we turned it over to the Sheriff’s department and they are handling it from here.”

There is still no word on what type of threat nor who made the threat. Sheriff Lutz said he plan to prosecute whoever made this threat to the fullest extent of the law.
