James Harker

In Loving Memory of James “Jim” Harker
James “Jim” Harker, a devoted servant of the Lord, beloved family man, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2026 at the age of 78.
Raised in Ohio, Jim carried the values of hard work and community with him throughout life. He later relocated to Chapin, South Carolina, a town he loved and proudly called home for many years. It was there that he enjoyed a well-deserved retirement after a dedicated 30-year career with BellSouth.
Jim lived a life full of passion and simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman and golfer, always happy when he was out on the water waiting for a bite or spending a sunny morning on the greens. When the weather kept him indoors, Jim’s competitive and joyful spirit didn’t waiver; he was always ready for a spirited game of pinochle or gathered around a table playing board games with those he loved.
Above all. Jim will be remembered for the size of his heart and the warmth of his presence. He laughed often and loved deeply, pouring his energy into his family and friends and those in his church family. He possessed a truly servant-hearted nature, always willing to help anyone in need without hesitation. Most importantly, Jim loved the Lord, and his deep Christian faith was the cornerstone of how he treated others and walked through life.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane Harker: his daughter, Kayce Harker; his loving brothers and sisters, Ronnell Harker, Virginia (Ginny) Hughes, and Constance (Connie) Harker; as well as a host of extended family and lifelong friends who will miss his laughter and unwavering kindness.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and at 9:00am-10:00am on Friday, October 9, 2026 at the New Lexington Baptist Church, 890 South Main Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
A celebration of Jim’s life will follow on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 10:00am at the New Lexington Baptist Church with Pastor Jon Emory officiating.
Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery, Portersville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Lexington Baptist Church, honoring Jim’s lifelong legacy of helping others.
