Janice Arlene Stegner, 85 of Zanesville passed away Saturday morning, March 7, 2026, at her home.

She was born January 28, 1941, in Dresden, Ohio, the daughter of Merle Wayne Schweitzer and Bernadine (Randles) Schweitzer.

Janice was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson High School. After raising her two children, she enjoyed many dedicated years working in the cafeterias at several schools throughout the Zanesville City schools, where she enjoyed seeing and serving the students each day. Janice was active for many years with T.O.P.S. and treasured the friendships she made through the organization. Throughout her life she cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren and loved listening to stories about their many adventures. Over the years, Janice enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including cooking, baking, sewing, and gardening. She also enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines and Longaberger baskets.

She is survived by her children, Nicole (Bob Osborne) McPeck of Zanesville and Brent (Margaret) Stegner of Gahanna; grandchildren, Mallory McPeck, Madison McPeck, Alyssa Stegner, Laura Stegner and Wayne Stegner; two sisters, Jeanette (Bob) Curry and Pam (Rolland) Accord; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Schweitzer and Irene Schweitzer and a brother-in-law, Jim Priest and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary B. Stegner, whom she married on August 16, 1959, and James Schneider, whom she married on October 26, 2013. She was also preceded in death by, two brothers, Karl Schweitzer and David Schweitzer; a sister, Annie Priest; father-in-law, Glenn Stegner and mother-in-law, Fauntelle Stegner.

Graveside service and entombment will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Pastor Peter Dembroski officiating.
