Jay Wiseman

Jay Wiseman, 95, of Zanesville, passed away Friday March 17, 2023 at the Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born on September 20, 1927, in Roseville, a son of the late Carl and Bernice Wiseman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Ellen; two sisters Cheryl Rucker and Leanna Carr; many nieces and nephews; many good neighbors and friends to a dear man. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Mary and a brother Carl. Jay grew up in Roseville, Ohio, but resided in Zanesville for the last 60 years. Jay served in the United States Army during World War II, retired from Nelson McCoy Pottery, and was a dedicated volunteer at Genesis Hospital for decades. Jay was proud to have served his country and was recently honored for over 70 years of membership to the Roseville American Legion. He was a longtime member of Euclid Avenue UM Church and also attended First Christian Church in later years. Per Jay’s request there will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday March 22, 2023 at Rose Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Mark Pierce officiating and military honors provided by the Roseville American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice 713 Forest Ave. Zanesville, Ohio 43701; Roseville American Legion; Muskingum County Animal Shelter 1430 Newark Road Zanesville, Ohio 43701. William Thompson & Son Funeral Home in White Cottage is assisting the Wiseman family.
