Jeeping for Veterans
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County Jeepers is an organization of automotive enthusiasts that explore points along some of the roads less traveled.
October in Ohio signals the peak of fall foliage and the Jeepers will be holding an upcoming fundraising ride for the Warriors 2 Wilderness organization that will tour some of the most colorful vantages in the State.
“We’re here to promote the Fall Foliage Ride that the Muskingum County Jeepers are putting on. It’s Saturday, October 12th, Starting at 11 O’clock registration, roll out will be at 1 O’clock and we’re starting at the Crossroads Pub and Grub up in Jacksontown, Ohio at the intersection of Route 13 and U.S. 40, Don’t have to have a Jeep to participate. This is a backroad ride but the most backroad we get is one gravel road. Everything else is paved or chipped and sealed,” Muskingum County Jeepers Member Chad Haren said.
The 60-mile-ride will venture to Roseville, where the Warriors 2 Wilderness grounds are located. Warriors 2 Wilderness is a veteran group that helps veterans process PTSD and transition back into civilian life through wilderness immersion and holistic wilderness retreats at their 30 acre facility.
“On a personal side, having done three tours in Iraq and two tours in Afghanistan, coming back here… Never hunted until 4-years-ago, when my oldest son took me out hunting and what resonated with me was that I wasn’t able to sleep in my own house throughout the night. If I heard a noise I had to get up, patrol the house, figure out what it was. So for me, going out there, I was able to fall asleep in the woods. And so that just… to me was kind of like ‘how can you sleep in the middle of the woods but you can’t sleep at home?,’” Warriors 2 Wilderness Founder Jason Maxwell said.
From Roseville, the ride will meander to the Muskingum River before ending at the Corner Pub on Linden Avenue in Zanesville, where they will have door prizes, raffle items and a 50/50.
