John E. Payton (November 19, 1925 – April 5, 2010)

John E. Payton Jr. 84, of Zanesville, passed away 12:05 am on April 5, 2010 at Genesis Extended Care & Rehab Center in Zanesville.

John was born November 19, 1925 in Muskingum County the son of the late John E. and Agnes G. (McIntire) Payton. He retired from the US Post office after 46 years service, he was past post master for the Coshocton Post Office, a member of the VFW, the American Legion and the EEA. He served his country in the US Navy, serving in the South Pacific during WWII and the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 63 year, Anna Fay (McBride) Payton whom he married January 20, 1947; his two sons Terrance (Vickie) Payton of FL, Anthony (Kathy) Payton of NC; his sisters Juanita Jean Stimac of Cincinnati and Nancy (Harold) Greten of Granville and his brother-in-laws Fred (Shirley) McBride of SC and Karl McBride of Zanesville and his grandchildren Ryan, Jonathan, Kaitlin, Kristin and Penny; his great-grandchildren Payton and Parker and special caring nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his infant son Tedrick S. Payton and a brother-in-law Jacob Stimac.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. The Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls is assisting the Payton family.
