John Glenn to Rely on Speed, Guard Play This Season in Boys Hoops
NEW CONCORD, OH
It was a top three finish in the big school division a year ago for the boys at John Glenn, and with 16 wins, their best season in five years ever since their MVL title run in the 2018-2019 season. But a new season brings about the challenge of replacing an unstoppable force for the Muskies.
“We lost five seniors last year. three of them contributed quite a bit. And the one that we’re going to miss the most is Caleb. I mean, you know, we lost Noah Winland, Nelson Cameron, D’Andre Fowler, as well as Timo. But, Caleb was such a force and did a lot of good things for us” said head coach Eric Sheck.
“You know, it’s hard to it’s hard to replace 6’6, you know, 260 or whatever he was. And we got, you know, we got five or six letter winners back. And I think we’re going to have to play a little faster this year than we played in the past. But, certainly losing those seniors last year will just be an adjustment and hopefully we’ll adjust to that.”
A change of personnel will result in a new way to play for John Glenn.
“There’s a lot of good schools. The league is very balanced right now. We hope that our guard play can kind of negate some of the size of a lot of the teams that we have to go against, but there’s a lot of good teams in our league and there’s a lot of good guards, and hopefully our guys will be able to, you know, kind of handle the ball, the tempo of the game, control that tempo” continued Sheck. “That’s got to be one of our keys this year.”
Junior guard C.J. Dolan added, “When it comes to offense and defense losing a 6’6 guy is kind of hard to replace, especially without another one, but just kind of doing our roles and having guys kind of step in and filling and take those guys’ roles.”
“Tri-Valley, they lost a couple guys that are really good for them. Maysville obviously lost Alex Bobb, who was really good for them. And, I think that we could be more physical this year and obviously contend.” said junior guard Stehl Bates.
The Muskies will look to be a force once again in the big school division when MVL play starts at Maysville on the 6th of December.
