John McIntire Library Prepares for Remodel

ZANESVILLE, OH – The John McIntire Library is getting ready for some upgrades.

Stacey Russell, the Executive Director of the Muskingum County Library System, said it’s been 33 years since they’ve done a remodel of this size. There will be two Community Meetings to discuss the remodel. These meetings will go over floor plans, the rendering of the remodel, and staff will be available for questions afterwards.

Russell said they are very excited to get this remodel underway.

“We’re hoping that some of the changes will highlight some of our areas of strategic focus. Including engagement by allowing library users to understand all of the wonderful resources that we have available for them, literacy in providing additional spaces for both adult and youth literacy tutoring, and capacity building which is developing and strengthening the skills of our staff and our community to provide them with the resources to thrive in this fast paced, changing world.”

Russell said some of the renovations will include new public restrooms and more spaces for community members to gather for events. She also said in total the remodel will cost under $10 Million.

“It’s a very exciting time for us. We’re looking at not quite a $10 Million project, so it’s a big deal for us,” Russell said. “I just think it will really engage the community in a different way and provide some additional community spaces.”

The community meetings will be held at the John McIntire Library at 1PM on Thursday, March 7th in the Carnegie Wing and at 10 AM on Saturday, March 9th in the Auditorium.
