Jose F. Diaz (August 30, 1939 – August 11, 2011)

SSG (Ret) José Francisco Diaz, son of the late Adolfo and Maria (Nieves) Diaz, was born August 30, 1938 in Santuree, Puerto Rico where he grew up and attended school.

As a young man, José entered the United States Army. He proudly served his country until his retirement in 1970. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. For his faithful service, Jose earned several awards and commendations; some of which include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Expert Badge and several others.

On December 30, 1983, José was united in marriage to the love of his life, Shelby Willow Taylor in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared over 27 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories.

After retiring from the military, José began working as a store room clerk for the mess hall on Fort Leonard Wood. He served in that capacity for 19 years. In his spare time, José enjoyed playing pool and bowling. He was an avid baseball fan and like putting together model cars and airplanes.

José was very proud that he had served in the military and he was a life member of the Francis J. Lynch FVW Post 3168 of Laquey, a member of COOTIS, American Legion Post #240 and AMVETS #102.

José leaves to cherish his memory his wife Shelby (Taylor) Diaz of the home; seven children: Manuela Rivera of Chicago, IL, Michael Diaz of Germany, José F. Diaz Jr. of Springfield, MO; Samuel A. Diaz of Carthage, MO; Jesus Diaz, Marina Diaz and Alberto Diaz, all of the state of New York; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitations will be Monday 11 to 12 with a graveside service in Duncan Falls Cemetery. Full military honors provided by VFW post #1058 and the US Army Color guard.
