Zanesville,Ohio-More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease and more than 2,300 are in Muskingum County.

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. The Greater East Ohio Area Chapter Alzheimer’s Association is hold a kickoff on Tuesday, June 28th at Bryan’s Place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A new addition to this year’s fundraiser features a chance to win lunch with Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton.

“Teams from the walk returning and new teams will be able to come and register their team, share tips with other teams, and their experiences with our staff and volunteers,” Alzheimer’s Association Communications and Public Policy Coordinator Andrew DeFratis said.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Muskingum County will be held at OUZ/Zane State Campus on Saturday, September 10th.

“It’s a disease that affects a lot of people in this community,” City of Zanesville Mayor Jeff Tilton said. “I think that we have to educate other people about the disease, and how it can affect not only the person who has the disease but the people that are around them. I think that it’s great that they are having this walk. Knowing that my son passed away from a disease, knowing that pain. Trying to make it so other people won’t have to feel that pain.”
