Juneteenth Celebration at the Gant House

ZANESVILLE, OH – Juneteenth is a day that commemorates the end of slavery throughout the United States and the Gant House in Zanesville is holding an event to celebrate.

The Gant House is the home of Nelson T. Gant, a former slave who went on to become an entrepreneur and one of the wealthiest men in the county. His home on Main Street is now serves as a museum and the host of the Juneteenth celebration.

“We’re going to have food, a fish fry, we’re going to have barbeque spare ribs, we’re going to have sides, drinks. All that’s included and we’re going to have fantastic entertainment, a DJ, we’re going to have some African dancers out of Columbus, and we’ll have a few solo artists, and we’ll have some entertainment all day long from 3 to 9 on Saturday of this weekend,” said Todd E. Ware president of the Nelson T. Grant Foundation.

There will also be games on site for any children in attendance. The Nelson T. Gant Foundation has hosted this event in the past with hundreds in attendance and is grateful for the community support and the sponsors who help make the event possible.

“It means a lot because it’s a time when the community, the African American community, and the people of color can come together and have an event in the area and we can host it and just have, just fun,” Ware said.

Tours of the Gant House are also available Tuesdays through Thursdays from 11 to 2 with more information available on the Nelson T. Gant Foundations website or on their Facebook page.
