Jury Seated in Weaver Newborn Baby Trial

A jury has been seated in the trial of a former Muskingum University student charged in the death of her newborn baby. 21-year-old Emile Weaver of Clarington is charged with aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse and two counts of tampering with evidence. There were more than 60 jurors that were questioned for over eight hours Tuesday that resulted in a jury of six men and six women with four alternates. Opening statements are scheduled to begin at 8:30 Wednesday morning in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court. Weaver is accused of wrapping her infant daughter in a plastic bag shortly after giving birth and leaving her to die in a trash can outside her sorority in April of 2015. Weaver plead not guilty by reason of insanity in July, but was found competent to stand trial after an expert evaluation. If Weaver is convicted of the charges against her she is facing life in prison with no parole.
