Kellogg’s 5K Braves Rain

Not even morning thunderstorms could dampen the mood at the Kellogg’s Plant today in Zanesville.

The Annual Kellogg’s 5-K ace and one mile walk went on as soon as the storms passed.

The race is held every year to benefit Christ’s Table.

“Well I didn’t know it was going to rain this morning until later,” said Christ’s Table Executive Director Gretchen Sayre. “I thought it was going to rain later, but I always say, God has to water his grass and make it green, so God was watering his flowers and grass today.”

This year’s race brought out a total of nearly 300 runners and walkers, 100 more than last year.

“We had over 170 pre-registered yesterday, and last year we only had 60,”she said. “We had 200 racers and walkers total. I can’t tell you how many have gone through the line today to pre-register, that weren’t pre-registered before.”

Sayre says christ’s table has been struggling to keep up with the rising need in the community. She says in june the organization made 9-thousand meals, 2-thousand more than in may. Last year the race made 3-thousand dollars, which helps christ’s table reach out to more people.
