ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum Family YMCA Summer Day Camp offers kids a chance to do fun activities and most importantly cool off at the pool.

Children get to beat the heat by swimming at the YMCA pool. But it is also a wonderful opportunity to get them to stay active, all while doing it with their friends.

“I just want to jump in right as soon as we get here!” said one YMCA Summer camp member, Shawna’cee Churille.

“We’re practicing on diving in swim lessons,” said another YMCA Summer camp member, Logan Serdy.

The YMCA also believes that all children should be taught how to swim properly. The lifeguards at the YMCA give the kids swim lessons on a variety of things such as freestyle, backstrokes, and breaststrokes. The kids are then divided into colors, green, yellow, and red, differentiating between their swim skill levels.

“We go over what we think they should go. We have lists. People in red will teach them certain things, people in yellow will teach them certain things, and the people in green will teach them certain things,” said YMCA Lifeguard, Craig Nelson.

“Well you never know, like you’re going to the water, you need to know how to swim,” he added.

If your child would like to participate in the Summer day camp, you can register by visiting the YMCA office or giving them a call at 740-453-9622.
