Kinder Receives EOIAAA Media Award

CAMBRIDGE, OH- Here at WHIZ we pride ourselves in local coverage. When it comes to sports there has been no bigger name in the last few years than David Kinder who exemplifies that everyday. On Thursday night, Kinder was honored and took home the media award at the EOIAAA conference in Cambridge.
“We did the two games down in Athens. The regional tournament with Tri-Valley and Maysville and they both lost in the regional semifinals. You know, I was bummed out when it ended. It was really a bummer that our broadcast season was over and we weren’t going to have any games to call for a little bit. Fortunately for me, the very next day is when I got the call that I was going to get this award which kind of relieved some of the pain a little bit to know that you were being honored in that way. ” Kinder stated.
His passion for calling games has been present since he got his start at WHIZ. One that he was incredibly grateful for.
“Zanesville means everything to me, it’s where I got my broadcasting start and this was year 8 for me doing broadcasts for WHIZ. It was a station that took a chance on a guy right out of college who had no experience and gave me an opportunity. I love the city, I love the passion from all the people there who really love the local sports and it means the world to get to come back each Friday and do the games. Friday nights when I wake up, that’s the most exciting part of the week is knowing there’s a game that I get to go do and even the whole week of prep, doing your boards and talking to the coaches and everything. Everything about it is just so exciting and I love every moment of it. It’s the highlight of my week to come down and still do the games and broadcast and get the feedback from everyone so it’s a blast. ” Kinder said with a smile.
He has plans on returning for his ninth season next fall with his next assignment being the MVL LCL Football All-Star game in the summer. The date for that game is TBA.
