Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship

DRESDEN, Ohio – Kids in the area were invited to participate in a Free Throw Championship.
The Knights of Columbus in Dresden sponsored the annual competition at the Dresden Elementary School. Eligible participants were boys and girls ages nine to fourteen. Following the council competition, the winners advance progressively to district, regional, and state finals.
“Local and district free throw tournament today for the Knights of Columbus. They’ll go from here to Columbus to shoot in regional. We’ve had pretty good luck here in regional, in the last three or four years we’ve always sent somebody. Either had somebody finish second at regional or sent somebody on to the state. And we’ve had state champions from our region,” said District Deputy for Region 42 Knights of Columbus, Roy McCarty.
The Knights of Columbus in the area has been involved in this competition since 1993. Knights of Columbus is an international fraternal service organization with charity and unity being their main principles.
“We like to hold it cause of youth. It’s a youth activity, and for the Knights, we try to get the youth involved in a lot of things. And this is just something that seems like a good way to break up the monotony of winter,” said McCarty.
District champions received medallions, and will have an eye toward moving to the regional and state levels.
