Labor Day Weekend Driving Statistics Released
The driving statistics for the State of Ohio have been released for the Labor Day Weekend.
Lieutenant Matt Boyd of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol told us there were seven hundred and twenty-three OVI arrests and six hundred and eighteen reported crashes. There were also eighty-six felony arrests and three hundred and forty-six drug-related arrests. Boyd said the news is good for our area of the State.
“We had no fatalities over the entire four day period so you know, that’s our main goal is our Officers keep people safe on the roads.” Explained Boyd, “They go home safe and we don’t have any traffic fatalities and we were successful in that this weekend.”
Boyd said fatalities for a Labor Day weekend in our area typically range from zero to three. Boyd said there were eleven fatalities State wide over the four-day weekend. That is down one from last year’s death toll. Boyd expressed his feelings on the news of lower statistics.
“Pretty happy of course, you know eleven people dying is eleven too many and we always shoot for zero. It’s a very difficult thing to–you know I mean things are going to happen and a lot of things are beyond your control to a degree.” Said Boyd, “But you know we really try and focus leading up to a holiday weekend on educating the motoring public.”
Boyd said the public can always help to lower the statistics. You yourself can help by not following too closely, driving the speed limit and make any and all phone calls or texts while stopped at gas stations.
