“Lace Up For Kids” is a Success!

Lots of kids around Zanesville tonight are sporting a new pair of shoes… just in time for the new school year. The WHIZ and Wendy’s “Lace Up For Kids” campaign handed out the new shoes to loads of deserving kids. Local Wendy’s owner, Ben Thompson, is very pleased with this year’s results.

“We are exceptionally excited about the results for this year, donations are up 10% from last year which I think is unbelievable if you look at this economic environment and I think a lot of credit is due to United Way as well,” tells Thompson.

With the donations from the community, the campaign gave out over 1000 pairs of shoes. Volunteers from the Zanesville High School football team say the kids were very excited about their new shoes.

“Yea the kids seem to like them, my cousin walked out there and one of the kids was so excited he put them on right when he got outside, he liked them,” tells Cory Harris, ZHS senior.

A large portion of the donations came from the wives of pipe liners.
