“Lace Up For Kids” Shoe Drive
It was another successful year for the big “Lace Up For Kids” giveaway.
After months of preparation and hard work, hundreds of kids left the Zanesville Civic League Thursday with a new pair of shoes for school. Volunteer, Linda Graham, said the event wouldn’t be possible without the community’s help.
“It takes a lot of donations and a lot of care from our community members, without them we couldn’t do this and few children would be served, and with all of the wonderful donations from everyone this community is so giving and caring that it’s just wonderful, it should put a smile on everybody’s face and make their heart feel good,” Graham said.
Wendy’s, WHIZ, and Eastside Community Ministry all partnered together to ensure kids across the community start the school year off on the right foot. Graham said there is no greater feeling than seeing their smiling faces.
“I love seeing their little eyes light up, and they’re so excited and say, ‘mom look at my new pair of shoes!’ and you just know that when they walk in that classroom on the first day of school they’ll be so proud,” Graham said.
This is the 27th year for “Lace Up For Kids” and Graham said they’ve received more donations than ever before.
