ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Lane closures and orange barrels have become a warm weather fixture for commuters traveling State Route 60 south of Duncan Falls.

Ohio Department of Transportation Central Ohio Regional Public Information Officer Morgan Eibel announced the return of construction along that stretch of highway and described what travelers can anticipate.

“With the State Route 60 reconstruction project,” Eibel said. “Work is expected to begin next week with a moving temporary zone under flagging operations, operations for various work items. But the actual full depth reconstruction work is not expected to start back up until mid-to-late March. And then at that point, motorists who travel that section can expect the work zones with the temporary signals to be back in place.”

The State Route 60 project shores up the ground, several feet under the roadway, with gravel, to help prevent rainwater from ponding where the weight of the vehicles have sunken the surface and the project also widens the roadway to meet current state codes.

“So for this project the work left includes approximately a mile and a half of full depth reconstruction within the project limits,” Eibel said. “There is also approximately a half mile of widening, which will be completed under daily flagging operations. And one box culvert that will need to be replaced, which is being phased like our normal, temporary signal zones. So that’s the work that is pretty much left for this construction season.”

Eibel noted that once the construction is completed, the contractor will resurface the entire stretch of road that has been temporarily resurfaced in segments.
