Laura Mae (Krause) Mummey

“If I can’t be with family for Christmas, I am outta here!”  Well, at least we would like to believe that is how it went down.  Laura Mae (Krause) Mummey was born on February 27, 1947 to the handsome couple of Merle Krause Sr and Genevieve (Spicer) Krause.  Laura was the beginning of a legacy of 9 children total for Merle and Genevieve…and we would like to think the best looking of the bunch!  Anyways, Laura decided to spend Christmas and the rest of eternity with her mom, dad, sister Kay and Our Savior in heaven on December 4, 2020.  This decision despite having received the entire season collection of Magnum P.I. for Christmas this year on Blue Ray!  (As her granddaughter Addison would say, “Rude!”)

Laura married the late Richard E. Mummey and later produced 3 children, Melissa, Daniel, and Thomas.  Laura was a dedicated mother and did her very best to encourage her children to be the best of whatever they chose to be.  Laura also had very fond memories of her grandmother, Grandma Edna Krause and strived to be the best “Grammie” when Aubrey (aka “the favorite”) came along as the first grandchild!  She later enjoyed great memories with her 3 other grandchildren, Wesley, Ashton, and Addison.  She enjoyed visiting Wesley in Arizona.  She had several date nights at the movies with Ashton, in which she still questioned how she got suckered into watching “How to Train Your Dragon.”  And then of course there is Addison, which she became closer to once she was confined to a wheelchair and could not get away from her constant talking!  She enjoyed being a “Grammie” and tried to attend the kid’s activities as much as she could when she was able.

Laura was a graduate of West Muskingum High School.  Before marriage she attended Meredith Business School.  However, it was when her children were in high school and college, she was finally able to complete her Associate Degree in Business Administration, focusing on Travel and Tourism from Muskingum Area Technical College.  She worked in the Travel and Tourism industry for many years before finishing the last years of her career at Walmart as one of the first new hires in the South Zanesville store when it opened.

Laura enjoyed traveling and accompanied her daughter on trips to Disney, Universal Studios, New Orleans, Louisville, and Arizona.  New Orleans was her favorite as she enjoyed exploring the French Quarter and visiting a couple plantations.  On a side note, Laura enjoyed trying various wines during her travels and at least on one occasion in New Orleans did we require a cab to return to the hotel room!

We could go on and on about Laura…her love of science fiction, her knowledge of geography, and her inability to wear matching socks (something her granddaughter Aubrey took after Laura).  If you asked Laura if life turned out the way she had hoped, she would probably tell you there are some things that she would have done differently.  However, she wouldn’t trade her family or friends for anything.  For the last years of her life, Laura attended Coburn United Methodist Church with her family.  Laura appreciated the friendships she made and the visits from the ministers and congregation when she was unable to attend.  Laura also received care from Cedar Hill Care Center for several years.  This year was especially challenging for her care due to it being…well 2020…. but we appreciate the staff doing the best they could in these crazy circumstances of a pandemic.

In accordance with Laura’s wishes, her final arrangements will be handled by DeLong, Baker and Lanning Funeral Home.  No calling hours or services at this time will be observed due to the craziness of 2020.  We hope to have a memorial service in the spring that includes some of Laura’s favorites things, a tea party and planting a flower garden.  Please sure to sign the online guestbook at www.delongbakerlanning.com to leave a note or upload a favorite picture of Laura.

In lieu of flowers, Laura would appreciate if you would send a donation to the Coburn Scholarship Fund c/o Coburn United Methodist Church and or make a donation to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter or Dog Pound.  She loved animals and took in many strays throughout her lifetime.
