Learning Fire Safety in New Concord

Safety is the name of their game, and they’re spreading that message to members of the community.

New Concord’s 51st annual Fireman’s Festival continued today. It supports the fire department, but it also gives them a chance to give people a first-hand lesson in safety.

"We like spreading the word around about fire prevention with the Smokehouse and teaching people how to run fire extinguishers and things like that," says Jason Moyer, Association President of the New Concord Fire Department.

‘Firefighter Battles’ were held today at the festival. Teams of three firemen completed a timed obstacle course for community members to watch.

"It really gets us out and gets people in the community to meet us and we get to meet them on a regular down to earth basis when we’re not on a run or anything like that. They really get to see who we are," says Moyer.

The festival finished up today. Moyer says they usually raise between nine and $10,000 and this year, they may have exceeded those numbers.
