COLUMBUS, OH – 15 years, 444 regular season appearances, and countless silverware added both to his own, as well as his club’s trophy case, Darlington Nagbe is officially retired from Major League Soccer.

One of the league’s all time greats, Nagbe spent the last six seasons with the Crew, soon becoming the club’s captain, and helping lead the club to two of its three MLS Cups.

After prior successful stays in both Portland and Atlanta, Nagbe says goodbye to the game as a member of the Crew, which provided a home that neither he, nor his family will ever forget.

“The support’s just been huge, you know? I think this is where…this is home” says Nagbe. “So seeing my kids grow up, you know, and they’re part of the community, and they have their friends, relationships that they’ve built. My family’s there to support me, my friends there to support me as well, supporting the team. So it’s been great to see.”

Nagbe retires as one of only five players to win four or more MLS Cups, he is fifth in all-time regular season appearances, and still holds the record for most career fouls drawn.

The Crew’s captain plans to remain in Columbus as he and his family ponder his next steps into retirement.
