Let Freedom Purrrr at the Animal Shelter Society

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Celebrating the Fourth of July can mean adopting a pet this year thanks to The Animal Shelter Society Let Freedom Purrrr adoption event.
Starting July 1, all of the cats at the society can be adopted for $35. The cats will be ready to adopt and the $35 fee includes a microchip. The society will also offer a $10 special on microchips until the end of July. Executive Director of the Animal Shelter Society April Gibson stresses how important a microchip can be, especially in the summer if a pet gets loose after being spooked by fireworks.
“Jared Reynolds of Jared Reynolds Insurance has sponsored 20 of the first microchips that we have done this week,” Gibson said. “We still have a few left, so make sure you come in next week to see us after the holiday and we’re still going to honor that we have a few of those left. And we’re going to go ahead and honor that special until the end of July.”
While fireworks and sunny days may be enjoyable for people, these things can be “pet-peeves” for animals around this time of year. Gibson suggests keeping pets at home instead of taking them to fireworks displays and ensuring there is a safe, quiet place in the home for animals to reside in.
“We don’t want to put a damper on what we’re celebrating this coming weekend, we want everybody to enjoy it, just be mindful of a couple things,” Gibson said. “Let’s leave our pets at home if we could. The other thing is, they need a safe space. We all like our solitude sometimes in our residence, let them have a safe spot in that home. An extra blanket, a bed, move into a spare bedroom or bathroom, let them be away from all that noise.”
The Animal Shelter Society will be closed from July 3 to July 6 due to the holiday. For more information about adopting a pet, visit their website at https://www.animalsheltersociety.org.
