Library Parking Access
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Now that the John McIntire Library is under renovation, customers are having to adjust to some of the inconvenient changes in accessibility.
Muskingum County Library System Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell explained the new parking and entry arrangements at the downtown location.
“The John McIntire Library is open and will remain open, just at a smaller capacity while the main part of the library is being remodeled,” Fennell said. “So the entrance is now in our north parking lot or the large parking lot between the library and I-70. and they have actually turned a little portion of Sixth Street into a two-way street, so that you are able to enter and exit the library; with all of the I-70 closures that just kind of happened at the same time.”
The library’s Shinnick Street parking lot and entrance have been closed to the public. So turning north onto Sixth Street from Shinnick is the only way to access the library’s parking lot and main entrance that is located in the Carnegie Wing, on the northwest corner of the building.
“So to access everything we have to offer, it’s really important to remember that we would love to see you at our Mini-Mac location, that we’re lovingly calling it,” Fennell said. “But we also have our branch locations and I would encourage you to visit a branch location as well. Take this opportunity to kind of do a tour of MCLS locations across our county and you know you’re going to find some really wonderful people, some interesting programs and collections that are created to specifically resonate with the communities they are in and they serve.”
The library remodeling is scheduled to be completed in June of 2026.
