Library system prepares for major service shift as John McIntire renovations advance

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Muskingum County Library System is preparing for several changes in the New Year as major renovations continue at the John McIntire Library. The updates will temporarily shift how patrons access materials and services, but their goal is to keep the community connected throughout the transition.
The John McIntire Library has been undergoing an extensive remodel for months, and crews are now moving into the next phase of construction. To safely complete the work, the building will close . It will remain shut down inside until the grand reopening in Spring. On , curbside service only will begin in the south parking lot along Shinnick Street. The north lot will be closed. Digital collections will remain available to patrons at any time.
“I can tell you we are all just so excited to show the community what we have going on, everything that we have been doing, so we will open as soon as we can, I can guarantee that, we all are kind of itching to get people back into the building and start back up services and open up the collection and just show everyone what we’ve been doing,” said Muskingum County Library System Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell.
While the John McIntire location is temporarily closed, programming and services will continue across the county. Staff from the main branch will be assisting at other sites, helping expand to offerings throughout the system. Additionally, the Colony Square Mall branch will increase its hours to six days a week beginning on .
“What you can expect during the New Year is that we still will be doing our programming with our community partners and at our branch libraries, so right now if you’re looking for something with less construction vibes, I really encourage everyone right now to visit one of the branch locations and kind of see what branch is closest to you and explore that a little bit, our branches are these incredible gems within our community and right now their service levels are actually increased, because the John McIntire Library staff, many of them are going out and working at our branches, doing programming at our branches,“ said Fennell.
The Muskingum County Library System will share updates as renovations progress. People can find the latest information on the system’s website and social media pages.
