CHANDLERSVILLE, Ohio- The severe storms this afternoon caused a lot of damage across the county.

A barn on Sugargrove Road in Chandlersville was destroyed after the storms passed through. Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Donald Alexander said they believe the fire was started after the barn was struck by lightning.

“In just a matter of seconds it was fully involved. We could see the smoke from clear back top of Lake Hill and Road. We started out. Time we got here it was pretty much burnt up. Framework was standing. That’s about where we’re at.”

Alexander said the barn was filled with hay and that one horse that was inside of the barn was able to escape to safety.
