Linden Avenue Crash

Police say drugs are likely to blame for a two vehicle accident in Zanesville that sent two women to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

It happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Linden Avenue, near AK Steel.

Zanesville police say a silver Hyundai Sonata rear-ended a blue Chevy HHR that was stopped at an intersection. Officers say the Sonata failed to brake upon impact, causing it to travel several feet past the initial crash site. Both female drivers were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, but were awake at the time. Their conditions are unknown.

Zanesville police say they believe the driver of the Sonata was under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the crash. North and Southbound traffic was delayed for at least 30 minutes.

The accident remains under investigation.
