‘Little Free Library’ opens at Mission Oaks Gardens

Community leaders are promoting a new way to read a good book.

What is believed to be Muskingum County’s first ‘Little Free Library’ had it’s grand-opening Sunday at Mission Oaks Gardens. Several community leaders and residents participated in the ribbon cutting and celebration to a new addition to the community. Terri Clapper said their motto for the project is “Take a Book- Leave a Book.”

“They are bird houses on a large scale with a front door on there as you can see here. They are available for anybody to take a book and if they are so inclined to leave a book in its place or return the one that you just read and since they’ll be all over Muskingum County they’ll be able to visit at other parks and recreation areas in town and enjoy some time with their family, maybe grab a seat on the beach and read,” said Clapper.

Clapper said the purpose of the “Little Free Library” is to build a sense of community and bring families together.

“The ability for families to sit and spend that time that they would not normally be able to do somewhere and grab a book and read to their kids is really a goal of mine. To see them sitting together reading on a bench,” said Clapper.

Clapper said thanks to the residents and local organization for their efforts and donations of the books to help make this project a success.
