Local Artist Captures Beauty of Zanesville in New Book

A local artist has created a piece of Zanesville history through her work.

Distinguished painter, Mary Ann Bucci, has been creating art in the Y-City for years. The self-taught artist just recently published a compilation of her most famous masterpieces in a book titled “Stories and Art.” The book includes more than 400 of Bucci’s original watercolor paintings, pictured alongside a brief narrative of the piece. Over the years, Bucci has painted numerous depictions of her favorite places in Zanesville, that she said were a huge inspiration for the new publication.

“These paintings are about local history, all of the churches, and then I have a history on as many churches as I could find history on, I only wrote about paintings that I’ve done of course, but I’ve done about every school, so there’s a whole chapter about the schools,” Bucci said.

A year in the making, Bucci’s book also features stories about her family and trips abroad, including Ireland and England. Bucci said her beloved cover also holds a little piece of history.

“I actually on the cover chose a painting of mine, it has a Bauer Pottery here, and it also has the history of the tulips coming to America and then the tulips, so this was the perfect choice for me to make to put on the cover,” Bucci said.

Bucci has several book signings coming up in the next few weeks. You can find her at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center Wednesday evening signing books until 8 p.m. Bucci’s book is also available for purchase at General Graphics on Dresden Road.
