Local Artists Chosen as Ambassadors for Havana Biennial Art Exhibition

Cuba

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A local dynamic duo who have been together for almost 50 years.

Co-Owner’s of Seiler’s Studio and Gallery Mike and Kathleen Seiler are the types of people who want to have a voice and use art as a way of bringing people together. Mike Seiler said they met, fell in love and had the same goal of living life with purpose.

“She is a writer. She is a poet and some years back I asked her to collaborate with me and couple her poems with each of my paintings,” Mike Seiler said. “When we exhibit, we are seen together as collaborators and then we work together on other things.”

One thing they have been preparing for is the Havana Biennial Art Exhibition that takes place from April 12th to May 19th. They were chosen as ambassadors for the exhibit that happens every other year in Havana Cuba which brings people together from all over the world.

“The Cuban government has invited about 30 of us from Columbus and Zanesville to be participants in the shows that go along with the Cuban Biennial. What a privilege. This means Zanesville artists have been recognized internationally,” Mike Seiler said.

The two pieces Mike will be sending to the exhibit are showing two groups that are separated by sky and ocean that represent the U.S. and Cuba, along with two of Kathleen’s poems. They hope that art and this opportunity will lead to Cuban artists visiting the Zanesville community.

Michael Reese is an art consultant and buyer in Columbus and Ruthie Newcomer host the RM Travel Group. They invited all together five artists from Zanesville to be ambassadors.
