Local Boy Scouts Pay Homage To Fallen Veterans

More than 14,000 flags were place in the Greenwood Cemetery for Memorial Day and to pay homage to fallen veterans.

Nearly twenty members of troop 158 Boy Scouts along with their parents and scout leaders participated in placing flags, which took roughly 2 1/2 hours to complete. The Adjutant for the Amvets and U.S Air Force Veteran, Jeffory Dittmar said this is something they do every Saturday before Memorial Day.

"If nobody does it, who’s going to know. There isn’t that many people going into the service today in order to remember folks that went before them. That’s why it’s super important," said Dittmar.

Dittmar said having the scouts place the flags not only gives them a sense of pride, but it also give them a good grasp of what it means to honor those who have fallen.

"It gives me chills, it really does. To know that they didn’t just come just for the heck of it they came because they knew the meaning behind it and so that gives me great satisfaction in my heart to know that these people are never forgotten," said Dittmar.

After almost 3 hours, the hills of the cemetery were covered in a sea of red, white and blue.
