Local Church Helps Feed the Hungry

A local church  gave residents a chance to try what some would say are unique foods. The event was held to raise money for Farmers and Hunters that help give back to those who have a harder time putting food on their table.

Think back to what you had for dinner, was it chicken, pork, beef ? Well people in the Village of Frazeysburg had more unique meals with barbecued beaver and fennel noodles on the menu.

"I checked out the turkey my friend harvested it and it is outstanding" said Bob Daniels.

It is part of the wildlife event an evening that aims to raise money for a local charity. This year the money goes to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, an organization that gives donated deer meat to local food shelters.

"I think they estimate 200 people benefit from 1 deer and so multiple that by you know 230 deer times that and it’s just unbelievable," said Daniels.

Frazeysburg Methodist Church has been hosting the event for 4 years. Their goal is to donate one thousand dollars to the cause. Lester Fitzgerald is a hunter and has been a member of the church for years and feels it is just right to give back.

"I have done it my whole life since i was a young kid, a young child and I think it is a good thing," he said.

The organization is growing every year and they say it has been hard to get donations so they are very grateful the church chose them.

"We started off with maybe 100 deer that were being donated around the whole county and now we’re almost at 250," said Daniels.

Donated deer are taken to a processor, then the meat is put into three pound bags and distributed across the county.
