Local Company Donates to ‘Making Strides’
As breast cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer death in women, one local company is giving back to support the fight.
The AutoZone Distribution Center is donating $25,000 to Zanesville’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k Walk.” Each year, there are more than 150 “Making Strides” walks nationwide to celebrate survivors, pay tribute to loved-ones lost, and empower communities to join the fight. Community Manager for “Making Strides,” Terri Kangas, said the overwhelming donation left her speechless.
“I have goosebumps, this is fantastic, when I got the call the other day that they had worked so hard and diligent on their fundraising for this year, and they’re our top corporate team,” she said.
AutoZone employees fund-raise all year long, in an effort to give back to local charities. Not only do the employees support the “Making Strides” walk, but also “Relay for Life.” Distribution Center Manager, Daniel Weisend, told us that raising money and supporting the community is part of AutoZone’s culture.
“One of our key values is caring about people, and cancer is something that’s touched pretty much everybody’s lives and it’s very personal to us, so an an organization we want to support the American Cancer Society,” he said.
The walk starts at 10 a.m Saturday at Ohio University Zanesville. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
