Local Facebook Page Creator Honored

You know you’re from Y-City when the mayor declares June 20 ‘Doug Kreis Day’ to honor a man dedicated to remembering his community.

The popular Facebook page ‘You Know You’re From Y-City When’ is followed by at least 10,000 people now and some of those followers gathered to say thank you to the man behind the historic content. Doug Kreis gets up every morning and works tirelessly on posting photos of the Y-city in it’s prime.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Kreis. “It keeps me active. My health has not been good in the last couple years so.. I’ve had both hips replaced and open heart surgery, so.. It gives me something to do.”

Even people who have left the Y-City came back to tell Kreis what his work has meant for them. Cary Dice came all the way from South Carolina.

“The most important thing is that people feel a kinship with the town they grew up in whether they’re still here or not, whether they still have family or not and they feel a real connection to Zanesville,” said Dice. “It was a great place to grow up and I think it’s still a great town to be in even though I haven’t been here for a long time. ”
