Local Fourth Grader to compete in National Speech Competition
A McIntire Elementary student is heading to Milwaukee this weekend to compete in a national speech competition.
Zanesville’s very own, Caroline Pinson, advanced to the national competition, after taking the first-place title at local, zone and state levels. Pinson’s required to write and present a three-minute speech on the topic, “God, Flag and Country” and she chose to write about her grandfather, an army veteran.
“He is really important and special to me, because well he’s my grandfather and he is a colonel, and he was in the Veteran’s Hall of Fame in 2009,” she said. “He was an Army Chaplain, so he’s very faithful, and I thought it would be good because the topic had to be ‘God, Flag, and Country,’ so that was perfect.”
Pinson said she is looking forward to sight-seeing around Milwaukee, and meeting other students from all over the country.
“Well, I really like cheese, so going to the cheese state is really exciting, and I’m just excited to be able to have this experience,” she said.
The competition is sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Pinson told us she can’t wait to share her story with those in attendance.
