ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â The 2016 Summer Olympics are coming up and gymnastics is one of the most popular sports to watch.
Here in Zanesville we have our very own award-winning gymnastics team. 86 youth lady athletes devote hours to training and preparation for competitions. These ladies took first place at the Ohio State Championship level two national division and 2nd place for the level three national division. Zanesville Gymnastics Owner, Monty Mitchell, describes this group of gymnasts in one word.
“Dedicated. They just love the sport,” Mitchell said. “The older levels are in here 20 hours a week. The younger levels are [here] a minimum of 6 hours a week these girls work really hard.”
Mitchell said they just received Ohio’s Compulsory Program of the Year Award for Ohio USA gymnastics. This winning team is made up of 12 coaches. And if you’re interested in your child joining this award winning team, it’s not too late.
“We’ve had a lot of kids come in older, usually 8, 9, 10 years old and do really well. We’ve had had them as young as 12 months believe it or not try a class. Our toddler class usually starts around 2 and 3 years old,” Mitchell said.
