ZANESVILLE, OH- The Muskingum County Arts Council is continuing its effort to bring creativity to local children with their series of free hands-on art events.

The council is hosting the second of four sessions, funded by the J.W. and M.H. Straker Charitable Foundation. This upcoming event is designed for second, third and fourth graders and will take place at Julie’s ARTery in Zanesville.

Kids will create watercolor paintings of underwater scenes during the class, which begins at 5:30 p.m. on .

“I think this is a really unique experience because Julie is an arts educator, like she used to teach in the East Muskingum School District, so I think being able to work one on one outside of a school setting is important because I think sometimes school can maybe be a barrier for expressing yourself so having that like third space to just do art and have fun on a weekday evening is a good opportunity for children, I’m just hoping it’s a good turn out and I think the more students doing art at a younger age the better,” said Muskingum County Arts Council Program Associate Kailyn Shalosky.

The Muskingum County Arts Council’s goal is to give children a creative outlet outside the classroom while also connecting families with local arts resources.

“We promote all of our events and also other art organization events specifically on Facebook, we try to be very active in promoting those events so if you’re ever interested in supporting the arts around the county please be sure to follow us and also the other organizations that are doing art events like ArtCOZ, ZAAP, and many more, we promote them all on our Facebook and website so it’s the best way to support,” said Shalosky.

The next free event in the series will be Earth and Fire: 3D Ceramic Printing for fourth through sixth graders on  at 10 a.m. in Roseville.
