Local Organizations Host Cupcake Wars

Local organizations got together Thursday to raise funds in a way that’s simply sweet.

Muskingum County Child Support, Adult and Child Protective Services and the Sheriff’s Office held their annual Cupcake Wars. We had the chance to talk to Patsy McDonald, Team Leader for the Muskingum County Adult and Child Protective Services who told us about some of the things that were offered to guests.

“We are judging cupcakes and there is a lunch that’s involved and we ask for a $6 donation and with that you get a ticket to vote for your favorite cupcake and any additional cupcakes you may purchase….so we have first, second and third prizes plus peoples choice. We have the judges who are judging for the first, second and third place prizes and peoples choice is the community.”

Door prizes were also given away. There were 20 different participants who made the creative confections. They were being sold for only 50 cents a piece. McDonald told us all of their funds went straight to operation feed.

“We chose that because you know, because we do realize that there are a lot of people who lack food and operation feed is an awesome program for our community for people whos means don’t meet their nutritional needs, you know, for the entire month. So anything that we can do to help with that…that’s why we chose operation feed.”

McDonald told us for her, being able to give is a great feeling. Last year about 100 people attended the event.
