ZANESVILLE – National Letter Carrier Day is the largest food drive in the United States but the pandemic has postponed it this year. The event was scheduled to take place on May 9th and for people who were considering leaving food items on their porch or in their mailbox, you can take these same donations to the food drive t Secrest Auditorium on Friday.

“The Fire Department has been having, for the last few weeks on Friday… if you do want to donate food at Secrest Auditorium on the Fourth Street side a drive-up where you can donate canned goods. So, if people don’t feel comfortable donating money momentarily, they can always donate food there,” USPS Letter Carrier Tony West said.

Monetary donations can be made on the Muskingum County Community Foundation’s website or money can be mailed to 534 Putnam Avenue and needs to be address to the Community Care Fund.

“All of the money raised goes to Operation Feed which all of the fourteen food pantries and hot meal programs – they disperse it among all the different pantries and food banks. They decide which food gets purchased and stuff like that so everything stays here locally,” West said.

West said any donation size is appreciated and that just 1 dollar is 1 meal for someone in need.
